FAQs

Please review these frequently asked questions about Pathway’s sponsorship program:

Are donations to Pathway tax deductable?

Yes, Pathway is a registered 501©3 nonprofit organization in the United States so all donations are 100% tax deductable.

Is sponsorship an avenue to adoption?

Although you will be providing personal support and care for your child during your sponsorship, adoption is not a part of Pathway’s sponsorship program.

How can I provide personal care for my sponsored child at Pathway when I live so far away?

Sponsors and children will exchange letters at least once a month, allowing for a personal relationship to develop. In the future, Pathway plans to have high speed internet at the orphanage, so children will be able to have a face-to-face video call on Skype with their sponsors.

What kind of school do the children at Pathway attend?

Pathway’s orphanage has an English medium matriculation school on its campus. “English medium” means the classes are taught in English, except for Tamil class, which is taught in the local language, Tamil. “Matriculation” means the students are college-bound rather than being trained for mechanical or other work.

Why does Pathway’s school only have classes up to 10th grade?

In India, the school system is set up different than the United States. School goes until 10th grade, and then students enter their first and second year of college (equivalent to 11th and 12th grade in the United States), which are more specialized, and prepare the students for University. Unfortunately, in order for a matriculation school to be accredited for the first and second year of college, there is a requirement for number of students in each grade. Pathway will meet accreditation requirements in 2013.

I would like to sponsor one of Pathway’s mentally handicapped people. What does that entail?

Communication with the person you will sponsor may be difficult because many of our mentally handicapped residence do not have full capabilities in English. Due to this, there may be some communication through e-mail or skype conversations, but there would be connection through pictures or crafts being sent, and updates from Pathway faculty.
